Prolotherapy is an American invention, which has been used for over 100 years with undeniable clinical evidence that it achieves good patient outcomes. Due to this success, it is now being used in North America, Central America, South America, New Zealand, Australia, and Europe.
The goal of prolotherapy is to assist the body to repair joints and strengthen loose ligaments and tendons. The appointment lasts about an hour, and patients usually require 3-6 treatments, spaced one month apart, for optimal results to be obtained. Once fully healed, many patients need no further treatment, apart from a “touch-up” single treatment once every two to three years.
There is little if any, “downtime.” It is recommended to avoid heavy stress on the treated area for the first 10 days, but there are typically no limitations to normal activity.
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)
Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) comes from the patient’s own blood. It contains bioactive proteins and six growth factors vital to initiate and accelerate tissue repair and regeneration. When PRP is injected into the damaged area, it stimulates the tendon or ligament, triggering a cascade of healing events. As a result, new collagen and other cellular tissues begin to develop. As the collagen matures, it shrinks slightly, causing a beneficial tightening and strengthening to the capsule of the damaged joint.
There is no risk of allergic reaction since the patient’s own blood is used. It is drawn by the doctor, placed into a centrifuge, and spun until red blood cells are separated from the plasma. The platelets are drawn off and “activated” to release growth factors.
The appointment usually takes about 90 minutes. Patients should limit physical activity that would involve the treatment area for a few days while the body begins the reparative process.
Scar Revision (Sub-Q)
This treatment is used for surgical scars that have become thick and dense, stretch marks, or keloid scars. Microscopically, such scars resemble hay stacks of jumbled collagen filaments.
Injection into the scar gently separates the scar fibers allowing nutrient rich blood flow into the damaged tissue. The result is a softer underlying scar tissue, flattening and smoothing of lumpy scars, and the narrowing of stretch marks.
High-Level Cold Laser (K-Laser™)
A Class IV laser can reach up to 2 inches deep into the body. It is used for soft tissue injury and arthritis pain. The anti-inflammatory action helps to calm pain responses, increasing microcirculation and enhancing healing of damaged cells. Used on recently damaged or infected tissue it helps the body overcome those obstacles and heal rapidly. We have saved teeth and toes and healed burns and puncture wounds.
Dr. Lyftogt Treatment
Also known as “neuro-prolo” or "peri-neural injection", Dr. Lyftogt (MD, New Zealand) developed this treatment which consists of nearly painless and very shallow, micro-injections near where nerves have been stretched or squeezed and thus have resulted in burning, nerve pain (“neuropathic pain”).
K-Laser class IV
K-laser is widely known for its use in wound healing, pain caused by inflammation, and toe nail fungal conditions.
Vampire PRP (for Face and Scalp Rejuvenation)
"Vampire" PRP treatment releases platelet growth factors and signaling proteins. This promotes collagen growth and proteoglycan synthesis. As cells repair, the skin becomes smoother, thicker, and tighter. A transformation of the cellular structure also takes place, where the skin rejuvenates in a natural manner.
This same treatment also can be used for hair restoration by stimulation hair follicle growth.
